Victory Theatre

The Portland Theatre was a neighbourhood cinema in Mongkok on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. It opened at an unknown date before 13th July, 1931, and showed selected films until its closure in late 1940 for refurbishment.

The theatre re-opened as the renamed Victory Theatre on 1st January, 1941. Its auditorium with stalls and balcony was on the ground floor of the theatre building.
It was renamed as the New East Asia Theatre during the war years, and only films censored by the Japanese Armies could be shown. As of 17th October, 1943, the theatre was in business.

New East Asia Theatre was translated from its Chinese name in five characters, its exact English name if any is unavailable.
It re-opened at an unknown date after the war, and its orginal name as the Victory Theatre was restored. Before its closure on 1st August, 1952 for redevelopment, besides Chinese dialect and English language films, USSR films dubbed in Mandarin were also shown.

The Ritz Cinema was built on the site of the former Victory Theatre.
