I do not know if “demolished” is the proper term since as of October 2021 the drive-in is mostly intact. While the screen tower still stands, most of the panels are gone.

However, the concession stand/projector booth, ticket booth, and ramps are all still present. I think “repurposed” is a better word than “demolished” since it could be re-opened with some renovation work on the screen.

My favorite teacher in grad school lived right behind the Ascarate, when he was younger he buried a cable from the last row of speakers all the way to his home across the ditch/canal to his second floor room. We had a party at his house and that old speaker was still hanging by the window. By this time it was showing moving in Spanish. I lived on the other side of Ascarate Lake on Ben Swain.

Status is demolished but screen tower frame is still up.

Name should be spelled “Ascarate.” I’m an old El Paso hand.
