Skyway Drive-In

The Skyway Drive-In opened on 5th June 1953. It ceased operation in 1980. The theatre’s sign remained up for many years after.

Apparently, were it still existant, it would now be located north of 44 Street E. between Faithfull Avenue and Northridge Drive.

IN 1956 it was parking 500 cars and was owned at that time by D. Rothstien.

Hi Elissa,

I worked at the Skyway Drive In while in High School….1977 -1979. At the time it was Managed by Mrs Pat Berquist who was a great lady to work under. Believe it or not…she very seldom watched movies!!! It was her recommendation to Mr Nels Warner, manager of the Odeon Theatre in downtown Saskatoon, that I be considered for the position of assistant Manager upon completion of highschool in 1979. I got the job and continued in the theatre business until 1994.
The Skyway Drive-in was located immedaitely beside what is Idywyld Drive ( Circle Dr ). On the opposite side of the roadway is the Travelodge Hotel. “ Mrs B ” would always make us “ rampers ” walk around and turn down any speakers that were playing loudly after a car had left, as the hotel had on numerous occasions advised us that their guests were being disturbed by the noise from the drive in wafting over !!
This was a great place to work and many life long friends were made and we’re still in contact with some.
