Located in the Hickman Mills district, the Crest Drive-In opened July 1, 1948 with Charles Winninger in “The Inside Story”. This drive-in had a capacity for 1,000 cars.

There were about 20 Drive ins in the KC metro area in the late 70s. We still have 3. The Boulevard on the Kansas side and the I-70 in KCMO as well as the Twin in Independence.
On Drive ins.com The Crest is listed as holding 1550 cars.
Google maps it right when “Hickman Mills” is searched. This may had been in the town of Hickman Mills.

Look for the 1957 Robert Altman movie The Delinquents on the MGM Movie Channel – it was made on location around Kansas City, and one scene was shot at the Crest Drive-in.
Mike Rogers, there was a Majestic Theater in Kansas City. It was downtown. I saw a picture of it on facebook today but cannot find it now.
This opened on July 1st, 1948. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
A note in the April 1, 1950 issue of Boxoffice said that the Crest was Commonwealth’s first drive-in when it opened in 1948. At the time of the article, the circuit had grown to four active drive-ins with 11 more expected to open that year.
