Ruffel’s Bioscope was in operation by 1907. It was described as a ‘white fronted cinema, with a domed paybox and chairs linked by Deal wood planks’. It was later re-named Picture Palace. Probably closed by the introduction of the Cinematograph Licencing Act in 1910.

Later demolished, a Marks & Spencer’s department store operated from the site for many years. In recent years this has become a Primark clothing store.

Later called the Picture Palace, it must have continued on after 1907.
