Filmotheque du Quartier Latin

Located near the Sorbonne. The building was earlier used as the bar of the Theatre des Noctambules, later becoming a cabaret theatre named Theatre du Quartier Latin in 1951. That closed in 1956 and it was converted into the 190-seat Quartier Latin Cinema by the Boris Gourevitch, Multicine chain. It transferred to another operator in 1981, and in 1985 it became the Utopia Champollion which was independently operated.

Since the late-1980’s it has been divided into two screens, with seating for 100 and 70. The decorative treatment in the screens is Rococo, with Classical paintings and lamps on the walls that look like flowers. The Utopia played little known films from countries around the world.

In 2009, it is known as Le Filmotheque du Latin Quartier, playing Classic films from Hollywood and seasons of directors films.

The correct name spelling runs: “Filmothèque du Quartier latin”! :)

Utopia, a independant movie chain from Southern France, used the premises and gave it its name from 1985 to 1995.
