Absolute worst theater I’ve ever been to- 2 theaters split into 6, all with mono sound though that was upgraded when Wallace took it over. Went with friends on July 4th 1988 to see “Big”, getting my mom to drive us as I thought it would be better than the twinned Varsity in Davis, boy was I wrong. Preview started with no sound, film stopped and we had missed the first few minutes after it re-started, lights came up in the middle also. We snuck into “Coming to America” afterwards and sound was also mono and rattly, also out of focus. Syufy closed it the week the newer Elk Grove theater opened and became a discount theater under Wallace.
Building is now called “Greater Grace Worship Center”- wondering what the inside looks like, if the auditoriums were un-divided and what’s in the projection booth now?
The Florin Family Savings Cinema closed its doors for the final time on October 7, 1999.
This reopened as the Florin Family Savings Cinema on May 31st, 1996 by Wallace theatre. Enlarged to six screens on August 12th, 1983.
Please add Plitt theaters as a former operator
Opened on screen 1 with “Skyjacked” and screen 2 with “The possession of Joel Delaney” and “Rosemary’s baby”.
This theatre and the Capitol twin cinemas both opened on May 24th, 1972. Grand opening ad posted.
Wow! I remember this old theater when I was growing up. The movies I saw here we’re Jurassic Park, Surf Ninjas, and Captain Ron. It was located in a neighborhood that doesn’t have the best reputation and around 1993 or 94 somebody got shot in one of the theaters. It was closed shortly after and turned into a church.
heres some pictures of the old State Theater in the 70s and 80s .
