Another cluster of mini-cinemas mainly catering to a South Florida retirement community, the Deerfield Cinema 5 stands adjacent to the original Century Village development. Since its opening by Southland Cinemas on March 28, 1986, numerous owners have switched back-and-forth between first-run and discount policies, plus screening ‘Bollywood’ films. It was closed in the spring of 2011. It was taken over by new operators and reopened, only to close on October 6, 2013. It became a church.

This theatre appears to have shut down. Does anyone know when?

There are some pictures of this theater on its page at CinemaTour: http://www.cinematour.com/tour/us/6523.html. Some of the movie time websites suggest that this cinema was most recently used to show films from India.

To my knowledge there isn’t a large Indian population in India. Hey any kind of film that keeps a theater open is great.

There isn’t a large Indian population in India? How strange.

LOL.

Muslims from all over the world enjoy Bollywood movies. Although their religion forbids such frivolous entertainments, I also know many Christians and Jews who enjoy having sex, although that is also forbidden.

Deerfield Beach has a significant American-Muslim population.

Closed — drove past there this evening. This will now be the second former Deerfield Beach movie house to become a church. Just as well, since the place showed substantial wear and tear after 25 years' operation, and probably couldn’t compete with the newly upgraded Deerfield Mall 8 a mile west.

This opened on March 28th, 1986. Grand opening ad in the photo section.

The Deerfield appears to have operated fairly consistently for its first 25 years. It had short periods of inactivity between various operators over the years including March of 2011 when it closed after the expiry of a 25-year lease. Two operators appear to have relit the venue thereafter including TFG which closed the Deerfield Cinemas 5 permanently on October 6, 2013. The venue was listed for sale thereafter becoming a house of worship.
