Nearby Theaters
Located in Hanworth, near to Twickenham to the West of Greater London. The Rex Cinema opened on 9th September 1937. Seating was provided in stalls and circle. It was taken over by Mayfair Cinemas after the outbreak of World War II, and on 30th August 1943, it was taken over by Associated British Cinemas(ABC).
The Rex Cinema was closed 17th September 1960 with Tommy Steele in “Light Up The Sky” and Donald Pleasance in “The Big Day”. It was converted into an Alpha Bingo Club, which operated for several years. The building was demolished and now an apartment block (Rex House) and garage are on the site.

The cinema was open way after 1960, I went to Saturday matinees right up until around 1965 – after then, I was too old. Not sure it lasted for long as a bingo club either.
