This cinema was located close to 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, the boyhood home of Dylan Thomas. In his writings he makes several references to "Hissing and Booing away his pocket money" at Saturday matinees in this hall. It was on the corner of Glanmor Road and Uplands Crescent.
The Uplands Cinema opened 11th April 1914 with 500 seats. The front of the hall was the usual Art Modern style design, with a rather cheapskate sloping shelter that ran the width of the facade.
The Uplands Cinema was operating in 1937, but had closed by 1940. After closure the hall was converted into a branch of Lloyd’s Bank. It has since been demolished to build a new Lloyds Bank on the site.

In fact the Lloyds Bank is a new build, so I think this cinema should be listed under ‘Demolished’ rather than just ‘Closed’.
Lloyds Bank, alas, closed in April 2016. The cinema was also mentioned in a poem by Swansea’s ‘other’ poet, Vernon Watkins, dedicated to Pearl White.
