A Western style theme defined the Highway 270 Drive-In, which was operated by Robb & Rowley-United Inc. It was opened on May 17, 1949 with Red Skelton in “The Fuller Brush Man”. This 400 car capacity cinema stayed open later in the season than most outdoor facilities. Landscaping consisted mainly of evergreen plants so there would be year round color. By 1957 it was operated by Rowley United Theatres Inc. It was still open in 1970.

Photo isn’t right. The 270 Drive-in in McAlester was in Krebs. The address is right though, 302 US 270. Us Mac kids would go out with a car load to watch B porn. The last movie I watched was “Reform School Girls” and “Oriental Vixen.” Just some soft nudity and all of the good parts cut out. We even had some of the guys from Camp Hudgens come out with us. They got in so much trouble when one of the kids was shocked and told the camp director, Bro. Paul McCullough. But he just said, “Look, I can’t be here every weekend, I’m going to leave it to you guys to pick the right movies.”

The 270 Drive-In is listed as a Robb & Rowley property in 1950
The drive-in was still intact in 1980. By 1995, the screen was gone.
I’m not sure what the term “evergreen plants” mean in the description. The 1955 and 1980 aerial photos only show a few trees and no plants of any note around the drive-in.
