Crest Drive-In

The Crest Drive-In was opened May 10, 1950 with Rod Cameron in “The Plunderers”. It was operated by Video Independent Theaters Inc. It was still open in 1955. It must have been a sales boost for the Crest Drive-In to be located midway between the two towns of Rocky and Hobart, but not enough to keep it alive after television came along.

Although there was a drive-in at this location, it was the CREST drive in out of HOBART. It was never called the “Rocky” it opened on 5 Jun 1950. If I had a way to add photos I could provide copies of listings in Theatre Catalog, IMPA and and the opening ad.

A more accurate address for this theater is 13742 US-183, Hobart, OK 73651. This points directly to the drive in itself. Now Hobart Stockyards.

Please update.

The May 20, 1950 issue of BoxOffice reported that “the Crest, a 300-car situation, was opened at Hobart May 10” by Video Theatres.

BoxOffice added a few more details on June 3. “Tom Kirkham is local manager for the (Video) circuit. The drive-in has a capacity of 400 cars, a snack bar and asphalt drive surfaces.”
