The Lyric Theatre was a downtown opera house by 1914. It soon became became a movie theatre when it was taken over by Robb & Rowley. In 1917 it was taken over by Southern Enterprises. The Lyric Theatre was closed in 1929 when the new Texas Theatre opened in town. The building was then used as a Post Office and gymnasium.
Following a remodel to the plans of San Angelo based architect D.C. Maddux, on September 17, 1942 the Lyric Theatre was taken over by the Robb & Rowley-United Inc. chain. The reopening movie was The Weaver Brothers in “The Old Homestead”. The Lyric Theatre was closed in 1952.

This was first mention in the Daily Standard in 1914, no grand opening ad found.
By 1921, the Lyric was being operated by Southern Enterprises, Inc., a subsidiary of Famous Players-Lasky, then the theater operating arm of Paramount Pictures.
Held an reopening on September 17th, 1942.
