The article had no mislabeling of the property. However, the owner of LA meme account Americana At Brand Memes was mentioned twice in the article, and m00se1111’s seemingly AI-generated paragraph contains an assumption that the Americana at Brand is in Burbank and that AMC Burbank 16 is part of that mall.
While that reporter is correctly discussing the AMC Burbank 16’s infamous escalator, they mislabeled the property. The Americana at Brand is a different mall property, located in Glendale (home to the AMC Americana at Brand 18, which doesn’t have an escalator).
it’s a pity this kind of hard hitting journalism wasn’t around for the Cinema 1, 2 and 3 in NYC.
Journalist Solves AMC Burbank 16’s Broken Escalator Mystery
Since the theater opened in 2003 at the Americana at Brand in Burbank, the escalator has frustrated patrons due to its exposed location, where rain, broken glass, and even a medical emergency trigger frequent shutdowns. Maintenance involves makeshift fixes like jumpstarting it, complicated by a chain of responsibility from AMC to property manager CBRE and owner EPR Properties, with Fujitec handling repairs. Locals treat it as a quirky guessing game, joking it’s haunted, while EPR eyes upgrades or a costly replacement—no firm timeline yet.
Auditorium 15 (soon to be Dolby Cinema) is currently closed.
Auditorium 7 (previously 70mm) has been upgraded to SCREENX. The 70mm projector has been moved to auditorium 3.
Auditorium capacities: 348 (1/IMAX), 145 (2), 145 (3/70mm), 147 (4), 85 (5), 128 (6), 238 (7/SCREENX), 241 (8/XL/Atmos), 99 (9), 82 (10), 145 (11), 146 (12), 146 (13), 273 (14!/Dolby Cinema), 401 (15), 228 (16!/PRIME)
The “!” indicates recliner seating.
Auditorium 8 is now being branded as an “XL” theater. AMC normally reserves XL branding for the largest non-PLF screen(s) in a multiplex, so I believe auditorium 15 will be replaced with a premium format like 4DX or SCREENX soon.
Auditorium capacities: 348 (1/IMAX), 145 (2), 145 (3), 147 (4), 85 (5), 128 (6), 238 (7/70mm), 241 (8/XL/Atmos), 99 (9), 82 (10), 145 (11), 146 (12), 146 (13), 273 (14/Dolby Cinema), 401 (15), 228 (16/PRIME)
Why were the other houses that are non-premium converted to “plush rockers“? I totally get that they don’t want to reduce the seating amount with recliners, but honestly in today’s world people just want to sit in recliners while they’re watching a movie. I end up going to the six and the eight because of this. They really should’ve went with recliners. And the rest of this theater really need to remodel the hallways and bathrooms. Look like it’s 1992.
In late 2023, the aging seats in the standard auditoriums were replaced by Plush Rockers, reducing capacity by 463 to a new total of 2,997.
Here are the new auditorium capacities: 348 (1/IMAX), 145 (2), 145 (3), 147 (4), 85 (5), 128 (6), 238 (7), 241 (8), 99 (9), 82 (10), 145 (11), 146 (12), 146 (13), 273 (14/Dolby), 401 (15), 228 (16/PRIME)
The New York Times has published yet another article about “sightline” pricing, this one filed from Los Angeles by Brooks Barnes: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/05/business/media/movie-theaters-ticket-prices.html
Second most popular cinema in the world in 2022 with the UGC des Halles 27 in Paris ahead of it.
“The UGC Ciné Cité Les Halles in the center of Paris drew more moviegoers in 2022 than any theater in the world, according to a new report from Comscore.
With its 27 theaters, the UGC des Halles is the largest in Europe. It sold 2.2 million tickets last year, vaulting it ahead of the Burbank in Los Angeles and Showcase Bluewater in south-east London."

This theatre’s opening movies include The Hulk, Alex & Emma, From Justin to Kelly, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, Hollywood Homicide, Rugrats Go Wild, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Whale Rider, Finding Nemo, The Italian Job, Bruce Almighty, and The Matrix Reloaded.
Tenet 70mm ran at the Legion Theater in Hollywood and it looked great it was a brand new print never run before. The people involved spent a great deal of money on this theater and manage to get film prints in 35mm and 70mm. Tonight Dunkirk in 70mm.
They also run a small drive-in theater the first ever in Hollywood and the only drive-in in California that can run film.
Please update, total seats 3460. The lost seats due to IMAMX, DOLBY and PRIME seat reductions.
IMAX with Laser has been installed. Seems to be the new single projector Laser system rolling out in existing AMC IMAX locations. I have not been able to get out to see it, but for $24!!! it is going to have to be something i really want to see.
Happy belated 15th anniversary!!!
Theater 16 is now another Prime auditorium. That leaves only one of the 4 big houses left that has not been ‘upgraded’ into a large scale format.
Good news! Theater 16 is being renovated and RECLINER SEATS are being added! Hopefully and probably this will be the case for all auditoriums but probably one by one. It is great this is being done as this theatre has become dated.
Major screw up at opening of Star Wars. Demonstrates AMC does not care about their presentation or customers. It seems the only theaters that care are in Hollywood.
This theatre is wonderful and I am planning to move into an apartment in Burbank so i could be near this theatre and go there more
Added an interior pic and outdoor signage from today.
Added three more interior pics including 2 in theater hallway. I should have more on my phone somewhere.
This opened on June 20th, 2003. Grand opening ads in photo section
ETX auditorium is still closed, but I guess they are making this into one of their “PRIME” auditoriums from this post from Buttkicker seats on Instagram. http://instagram.com/p/hJ55YlH9jT/#
Sub-woofers in the seats?? Sounds like this could go either way…:) I thought they would add a PRIME auditorium to another smaller auditorium like they did elsewhere but at least they are trying to make the room different then IMAX with superior seating and sound.
The ETX auditorium is closed this week for the installation of new seats. I was told they are putting in the red recliners in the ETX auditorium only and will evaluate how it goes and perhaps install them in all. I guess they will add reserved seating as well, but I forgot to ask. I find it interesting they are reducing seat count, but now one can pay for a premium experience and actually have one.
I, too, found the light level impressive, especially compared to the standard today, although I don’t think it’s going to change anyone’s mind on 3-D. If I were set on seeing a movie in 3-D, I would definitely go to (and pay extra for) a laser theater. But laser wouldn’t make me want to see something in 3-D that I was planning on otherwise seeing in 2-D.
