Located on the corner of Ripple Road and East Street. The Electric Theatre De Luxe opened in July 1910 and was operated by Mr A.E. Martin. It was locally known as Martin’s Electric Theatre. Seating was provided on one level.
Closed for refurbishment in 1923 it re-opened in September 1923 as the Electric Theatre under the ownership of Rose & Bockner. In 1955, under new ownership, it was re-named Regent Cinema, but this was short lived and it was closed on 14th July 1956 with the films "The Colditz Story" starring John Mills and "The Love Match" starring Arthur Askey.
The building was converted into a supermarket, but has since been demolished and shops built on the site.

I used to go to this cinema in the early 1950’s. It was known locally as the bughutch, it was not as well appointed as the Odeons but we liked it. Sometimes if you leaned back hard on the seats they would almost fall over. Happy memories!
