The Colonial Theatre has not been demolished, but remains closed.
However, the addition of three rollup garage doors (seen at right) suggest the space may have found use as a warehouse.

When driving by the other day, I saw the Colonial’s roll-up door open. I went inside—it’s being used as a truck repair and storage facility. It is very much intact!
The Colonial Theatre located at 830 Boston Avenue opened on January 29, 1921. It closed in 1952 and was used as a church beginning in 1955. It has been used for storage.
If you look closely, you can see the carved letters “COLONIAL” on the top of what has been allowed to fester into a real junk-heap. Just the other day, I noted a building on the other side of town, on Fairfield Avenue shortly before the intersection with Commerce Drive, below Black Rock, that bore simlar carvings which read “WEST COLONIAL”. I wonder if this movie house once had a “sister” on the other side of town.
One other thing: I believe THE COLONIAL existed at least into the mid or late fifties. I remember perusing the theater ads as a kid and seeing it posted, but it was always too far from my home to go there.
This building is for sale. The garage no longer exists.
This is interesting and was mentioned in the NewsTimes a few weeks ago. It was about a Bridgeport cop who investigated breakins here and at the Poli and Savoy and brought his camera with him.
