The 1,200-seat Darcy-Palace was opened on 6th March 1914 with Helen Gardner in “Cleopatra”. Designed by architect Alexandre Fournier. It was renovated in 1955 when the facade was given a Streamline Moderne style makeover and the auditorium was given the same treatment.
In 1978 three screens were created in the basement of the building and the Streamline Moderne facade was removed to reveal the original 1914 Beaux Arts style facade with its rose window. In 1995 two more screens were added giving a total of 6-screens. Today the Cinema Darcy occasionally screens films in their original language versions. Seating capacities in the auditoriums are: 363, 168, 181, 131, 80 & 60.

The original Darcy Palace opened around the time of World War I. During WW II it served as a Soldatenkino for the German forces. The present cinema complex retains the original street facade of the original Darcy Palace. I have, somewhere but just now mislaid, more details of the history, which I will post if they turn up.
Took a while but I found my information eventually, hiding in plain sight.
The Darcy Palace first opened on 6 March 1914, with “Mark Anthony and Cleopatraâ€, it was designed by the architect Bouchard and it had about 1,100 seats, but they claimed 1,500. During World War II it was a “Soldatenkinoâ€. Additional screens were added from 1976, with the sixth screen added in 1995.
