The 9-screen MGM The Arcadian opened on 15th November 1991. It was located in the Arcadian Centre, to the south of Birmingham city centre. Purchased by Virgin Cinemas on 21st July 1995 and re-branded Virgin. Taken over by the French entertainment group UGC, it was rebranded with that name.
The UGC was closed on 6th November 2003 and was taken over by Cineworld in July 2005. It never re-opened.
Seating capacities in the screens were for; 419, 299,275,224, 192, 222, 210, 198 and 168.

I went here a couple of times in the late 90’s. Absolutely dreadful multiplex in a very unappealing secondary location. I gather Digbeth, nearby, is now “trendy.”
Rear array speakers were JBL 8330.
The only time I went to this cinema was to see “Hook”. The screen got smaller for ‘scope as a top mask came down as in the smaller converted silent cinemas designed for Academy aspect ratio films. I never went back as a result.
This opened as MGM The Arcadian. Grand opening ads posted.
