Back in the 1970s, I wrote a Hoffman paper on movie theaters in Wayne County, and, at that time, there were still folks around that remembered the Playhouse. I only remember it when we drove by it in the 1970s, and, by that time, it had been closed for quite a while. It was eventually torn down and there are photos online of the demolition. There are also a few photos from the 50s online, but I am wondering if anyone has any photos of the interior of the theater. I have only seen one. Also, I am wondering if the theater ever converted to wide screen in the 1950s.
BTW, the theater wasn’t torn down until 1975.
Mark could you provide links to the online items to which have referred?
This was a George Eichenlaub-designed theatre.
I bought out a bunch of stuff from George Eichenlaub ‘ s estate. Pictures of this theatre included.
The Feb. 1, 1910 issue The Nickelodeon states that “A moving picture theater has been opened (in Clyde) at the corner of Main and Ford streets by Hamilton and Mack.” Apparently another theater predating this one.
Chasm – would you consider posting the photos?
