Located in the Wheaton Plaza Mall, now Westfield Wheaton. The Roth’s Wheaton Plaza 7 was opened December 25, 1986 by Roth Theatres. In 1990, four more screens were added and it became the Wheaton Plaza 11. In August 2008 it became the Montgomery Cinema & Drafthouse, using six of the screens. This was a short lived venture and it became the Montgomery Royal Theatres, which closed in 2013.
On October 13, 2016 it reopened as the AMC Wheaton Mall 9. Screen 5 has been closed since at least fall of 2025.

Saw HELLRAISER 2 at this venue on Fall Break in college in 1988
This venue should be updated to OPEN under Montgomery Royal Theaters name/management. Their website is the same .com. Looks like they lowered their adult evening prices since I was last there by $1.
Noticed that AMC is now trying their hand at making a go of this venue. Of the recent photos I have seen, it appears that AMC just made some cosmetic changes to the existing structure rather than building from the ground up.
This was opened by Showcase Theatres on Christmas Day, 1986. 1st listings posted.
The February 12th, 1988 listings show two separate cinema complexes in the same mall, Roth’s Wheaton Plaza 7 and the Cineplex Odeon Showcase Wheaton Plaza 4. Loews later took over the Roth’s location and merged them on December 7th, 1990 I think Roth’s opened its 7 screens on Christmas Day 1987.
The theater is no longer in the mall itself, it is a freestanding building in the same complex. I don’t know the history so I don’t know when the current building opened. It used to be in the mall itself. As mentioned there used to be 2 separate theaters in the mall itself, now it is 1 theater in a separate building. Anyone more familiar with the history?
Opened on December 25, 1987, not 1986.
Please add Loews Theatres to previous chains, it was taken over in 1989, I don’t know if they bought the Roth Theatres chain
