The 9-screen MGM opened on 15th December 1994. It was soon taken over by Virgin. Then taken over by UGC in October 1999 and re-branded. It was taken over by Cineworld in July 2005 and re-branded Cineworld.

Seating capacities in the screens range from 452, down to 147. On 10th December 2024 it was announced that the Cineworld Cinema - Northampton would be closing on 19th January 2025. It will be taken over by the Odeon Cinemas Group.

It also spent a period as part of the Virgin chain, after MGM moved out.

A Starbucks occupies the mezzanine floor, with views over the Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC.

Visited this cinema a bunch of times around mid to late 90’s whilst under Virgin ownership. If I recall they offered a monthly pass for £20 which entitled you to unlimited movies. Don’t remember any other cinema chain offering anything similar around that time until many years later when Cineworld launched their Unlimited Card?

Screen 5: Superscreen looks a decent sized auditorium with 390 (+ disabled) seats. Anyone know the screen dimensions?

The rest of the auditoriums all look rather small.

Announced for closure on 10 December 2024 as a consequence of their financial troubles.
No closure date given.

It has now been announced that Odeon will take over this site in 2025.
