The Peoples Palace was built and opened in 1913 by former showman/fairground operator Mr Barker. It was acquired by Ben Culey Jr. in 1931 and talkies were introduced, the first sound film to play here was Leslie Henson in “A Warm Corner”. It was re-named Palace Cinema. Ben Culey Jr. operated the cinema until early-1976 when he sold it to Breckland Cinemas Ltd. They had been operating it for the previous ten years and it was on a policy of films, with bingo on two nights a week.
The Palace Cinema closed in Summer 1985 with 15 people turning up to see Michael Douglas in “Romancing the Stone”. It became a full time bingo club, and in 2008 is operated by the independent Winners Bingo Club.

Originally the People’s Palace but the Palace by the 1930s. In answer to edgey2001 it was featured in ‘The Big Parade’ (1970) and ‘A Soldier’s Farewell’ (1972).
