Located on Highway 93, this one time boom town for mining had a population of 27,000 in the late-1920’s. Today’s population has dwindled to about 900 according to the folks at the local gas station.
The Gem Theater was opened in 1937. It was originally located in the adjacent Opera House which closed in the 1940’s. The Gem Theater is a wooden structure just off the main street(business 93). This is quite an interesting town if you are into old ghost/mining areas!
Sadly, the Gem Theater was closed in 2002 when a windstorm blew the roof off, onto the roof of the Opera House. The roof has been repaired, but to date it has not reopened. It was an independently operated, second-run movie theater. In May 2020 it was purchased by a new owner with plans to restore and reopen.

The sister theatre of the GEM is the GlOBE in Globe, Arizona. They were built by the same person.
The Gem has been closed for over 4 years, due to a bad wind storm. The 2 brothers who own it, can’t decide on when or why to reopen it! We’re stuck here with out any theater.. Nice..NOT
Here is another photo from 2008 or thereabouts:

The Gem theatre was a Hawk Circuit theatre with home office in Salt Lake City,Utah.
Any pictures of the interior? I would like to see inside the projection room.
Incorrect address. 648 Main Street is correct.
