Just wish to clarify, the family who built Sky Hi was named Jelinek, not Jelmek. It was my grandparents and Uncle who started it all. They also built and operated the Dundale in Dundee as well. The Theatre stood where the Drury Lane now stands. They then built the Sky-Hi Twin in Addison which opened in 1968. It was state of the art being a twin screen and was completely asphalted as well. That theater closed after the season of 1985.

Above address does not map properly. Use 385 East Roosevelt Road, now in Oak Brook, IL 60181 as this is approx. where the drive-in was located.

Going to the Sky-Hi was such a treat. We went in our pajamas and I remember it being so beautiful. Of course when you’re a kid…

This comment posted about the Sky-Hi in Addison, IL refers the the Sky-Hi in Elmhurst:
“The Jelmek family pioneered in the drive-in theater business when they built the original Ski Hi Drive-In theater in Elmhurst 20 years ago. The original theater was taken by the state for highway purposes.

The Side of the screen that faced York Road had a neon star and crescent moon. I worked there at the concession stand in the summer of ‘64.
Elm Skate where Tony Tahlman played a killer organ was across the street.
