Grand opening ad: United Artists Farmingdale Theatre opening 17 Jul 1998, Fri Newsday (Suffolk Edition) (Melville, New York) Newspapers.com
Please correct, theatre open July 17, 1998. The grand opening ad in photos section @rivest266, thats week 2 ad
Please update, 1024 seats
Recently, recliner seats were installed in addition to a digital IMAX theater (275 seats).
Also, a number of years before this theatre was built there was a sign on Route 110 announcing the building of a multiplex on the site where the driving range is. I don’t recall which chain was supposed to do it but, as I recall, there was also an artist sketch of the building.
Then, later when the now Regal opened it was basically on an adjacent piece of property around the corner off 100 although the pylon is on 110.
The little Starbucks on 110 at the tip of the multiplex property actually looked like a mini theatre when the steel work went up.
They worked day and night to get the original theatre open on the appointed date. One, night at about 10 PM and one man was laying the tile floor in the one auditorium. The opening was like three days away. I think they did make the deadline but not all auditoriums were online at first.
There are two problems with this theatre. Parking is one. They have limited parking of their own but have cut a deal with the neighboring Executive Plaza office building to use their space. A good solution. Who goes to a matinee on a weekday.
The other problem is the tiny lobby. When there is a crowd, crowd being defined as over twenty, you’re out in the elements and the marquee is just a small projection.
Good equipment in the booth. I miss Jerry Lewis, the old projectionist there. Fun place to work!
