Built in 1882 as the Corn Exchange it was used as a Provision & Produce Market until the mid-1960’s. A floor was extended across the main hall and a 221 seat cinema created.
Opened as the Ipswich Film Theatre on 9th September 1975 with Ellen Burstyn in "Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore". It was sponsored by the British Film Institute as one of their Regional Film Theatres, playing independent and classic films.
In the late-1990’s it was divided into a twin screen cinema, later re-named Corn Exchange Film Theatre. Closed on 25th July 2007, it was immediately taken over by the independent Hollywood Cinemas chain and new seating installed. Seating capacities are now 209 (with digital projection) and 40.
In 2013 it was re-named Ipswich Film Theatre again. In 2022 it was renamed King Street Cinema.

Architects were the Lincoln firm Bellamy & Hardy, who also designed the Town Hall which adjoins the Corn Exchange.
