Located in Urmston, part of Trafford in today’s southwest Greater Manchester. The Urmston Picture Palace opened in 1912. The architect Percy Hothersall came from Prestwich. The Palace Cinema, as it was later known was altered in July 1928 to the plans of architect Herbert Harold Brown of Altrincham. It had a proscenium 35 feet wide, a stage ten feet deep and two dressing rooms.
The Palace Cinema closed in the late-1950’s and was converted into a factory, then in later years a Nissan car dealership. This too was closed sometime after 1998 and the Palace Cinema was demolished. A block of flats named Elstree Court now stands on the site.

My posting for this cinema did not supply the stage information credited to my name.
Having questioned this picture on several occasions I am assured it is correct. The odd angle from where it was taken creates an incorrect idea of where it used to stand. The large building on the left is still there as a part of the Urmston Market, the Palace is way in the background.
I have now confirmed the architects name, it was Percy Hothersall.
An interesting side to this cinema was that on opening night the full house takings were donated to the Cottage Memorial Hospital which was its neighbour.
