Opened as part of the Greyhound Retail Park off Sealand Road. The 6-screen Cannon cinema opened on 18th December 1990. It was a project of Cineplex Odeon. It was re-named MGM in 1991 and then in 1995 was re-named the Virgin. In 1999 it was re-named UGC and in 2005 it became the Cineworld. Seating capacities in the screens range from 366, down to 210.
The Cineworld was closed on 10th October 2013. It was demolished by summer of 2017.

Demolished. Bowling alley which occupied units in the building to the right of the cinema’s former location converted and extended to form a new Asda superstore. Part of this extension, surface level car parking and ‘click and collect’ pick-up point now occupy the former site of the cinema.
This was my local cinema when I was younger and I always remember how big the auditorium looked (perhaps because of how much younger I was then) As far as I recall all the screens even had curtains, which is surprising for a fairly new cinema.
joeswin: If memory serves correctly, the first generation of “modern” (i.e. post mid-80s) multiplexes tended to include curtains. It wasn’t until the next generation designs—second half of the 90s—featuring stadium stepped seating, with only moderately angled front splay walls, that they were dispensed with—e.g. typical example of Warner Bros. International Theatres* house style. Of course, these “evolved” to today’s standard “black box” auditoria with wall-to-wall screens.
(*The same house style was used in Warner cinemas outside of the partnership between Warner Bros. International Theatres and Village Roadshow; Warner Mycal in Japan, for instance.)
