Located in a building within the historic and recently renovated Hackesche Hoffe in the Eastern district of Mitte, Berlin. The original Art-Nouveau style building was designed by August Endell in 1906/1907.
The 5-screen cinema opened in 1996 and is located in the courtyard of the building, on the fourth floor, above the Chamaleon Variete Theater (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). Access from the street is down a very narrow alley and through to the courtyard. Inside the auditoriums, many original Art Nouveau decorative details have been retained, thanks to the architects Kaup & Wiegand Architekten. The screens are THX certified, with the main screen seating 325. Additional facilities include a restaurant and a bar.
The Hackesche Hofe Filmtheater screens many films in English
