Lyric Cinema

Located in St. Peter Port of the Channel Island of Guernsey. Originally opened as the Lyric Hall, it was operated by Berstein Theatres in 1921. It was taken over by Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT)/Gaumont Theatres in 1936. It was taken over by an independent operator in 1940 and then came under enemy occupation when the island was over-run by the German’s.

After the war, the Lyric Cinema was used as a film venue for the British Armed Forces until it was converted into a billiard hall in 1951.

Guernsey’s first talkie, Showboat, screened at the Lyric on 9 December 1929.
