Please update, 4 additional screens added December 22, 1995. The theatre original name was AMC Media Center 4. It was renamed the same day when the AMC Media Center North 6 open. Grand opening ad in photos

Did this theatre start out as a 4 Plax? And if it did, which side was the original 4? The Hall going back beh8nd the snack bar or the hall up the stairs to the right when you’re u go in?

This theatre and the AMC Old Pasadena opened on November 22nd, 1991. Its grand opening ad can be found in the photo section.

Goes all digital on Friday.

That’s a sign that it should be around for awhile longer, I think… which pleases me to no end, because I’m a sucker for ‘80s mall plexes.

Yep, that Blade Runner screening must have been 1992. $4 doesn’t sound too bad now! Thanks for the info, KingBiscuits.

I like the AMC 8 for the following reasons: $6 senior Tuesday and they show some independent movies that are closest to my North Hollywood location.

In 2010, at the AMC 8, I saw Crazy Heart, Ghost Writer, Restrepo and Knight and Day. Free parking and convenience is always nice.

This theater has become a joke value wise. They currently charge $12 to watch mostly second run movies in 1980’s style theaters. The booking style is awful as well, they only book indies September through April and then use it during the summer as a run off theater for the nearby “crown jewel” AMC 16. If Burbank residents didn’t have such a voracious appetite for big summer movies, and if the nearby AMC 16 and AMC 6 didn’t have such small theaters that sellout all the time this relic would have bitten the dust a long time ago.

Was it in 1992? Because that’s when Blade Runner has its national reissue.

Detective job: I remember this theatre being referred to as the “AMC Media Center” in its first years – before 2003 (when the mall was remodeled and renamed the “Burbank Town Center”). I have a ticket to a showing of “Blade Runner” dated November 1 (no year listed) that says “AMC Media” for the theatre. I don’t think this would have been 1991, since the re-release only played at the NuArt at that time and the Mall wasn’t open until later that month. To add to the mystery, this was a $4 ticket to an 8:30PM showing! Anybody know when “Blade Runner” showed here?

The Town Center 8 started out as a 4-plex, but as the little shops along its left side struggled and closed, the theater expanded , turning each of the four ex-shops into a mini-theater. The newer 4 screens have the foldaway armrests that the original 4 don’t, and are much more easily wheelchair-accessible (the front 4 theaters require their wheelchair lift to be working), but the seating is flat and they’re even tinier screens than the original front 4. Other than carpeting and a little decorating, they just took each little boutique shop, closed off the entrances and put screens there instead, threw in a few dozen seats and a projection booth in each, and connected them to the lobby via a hallway. There’s a good chance that your living room is larger. IIRC the original 4 are slightly sloped, but not much.

But the Burbank 16 and the Town Center 6 really are quite nice, in every way that the 8 isn’t. The 8 are convenient when you’re shopping, but really, it’s such a short walk to screens that are so much better.

I notice the 8 has started to play second-run films that the better screens have already dropped, and some independent films. Wise move, actually.

Stealth marketing at its finest.

I haven’t been to this theatre, but I do frequent the AMC TOWN CENTER 6 which is also in the same vacinity. The 6 plex is nice; all stadium seating with huge comfy seats with lift up arms rests. It is never overly crowded in the afternoon and easy to access. I went last week to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall for $6.00 first matinee; cannot beat that!

I’ve only been here once and…YIKES! They need to either shut this one down or turn it into an AMC Select house.

Including this theater, there are 30 screens in the general vicinity, all run by AMC:
