Located on the corner of Route 9 and Ernston Road, this theatre was a single screen from the time it opened November 20, 1963 with Jack Lemmon in “Under the Yum Yum Tree”. Itt was twinned in 1975. After twinning, each auditorium was long and narrow, with about 400 seats in each.
Was always the “forgotten child” under General Cinema, as Menlo Park, Brunswick Square and later Woodbridge always got the cream of the crop movies, while Madison got “sloppy seconds”.
Was sold to the Music Makers chain in early-1980, which ran it into the ground. The theatre closed for good on July 8, 1982 with “Porky’s” & “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid”. It was demolished for the Route 9/Ernston Road highway expansion.

Grew up in Madison Park across Route 9 saw many movies there, Jeremiah Johnson in early 70s my sister and I were only ones at a 4:00 weekday show.
Remember a big lobby with lots of paintings.
I remember going there in 1978 to see “American Hot Wax” I was a union projectionist and always got in for free cause I knew the guys who worked there. Loved it as a single screen, hated it as a twin.
You know movie534,all the Union projectionists i worked with at ABC/PLITT and GCC only two guys actually enjoyed movies that ran the Booth, the other guys were always working on something on the make table or reading.I was an Assistant Mgr,and not an operator.
