The historic Pythias Theatre building is located in the heart of the Hocking Hills, a scenic wonderland on Ohio’s Appalachian foothills region that attracts nearly 3 million visitors each year.
The 660 seat theatre opened as the Pythian Theatre in 1926 to a capacity crowd who viewed Lloyd Hamilton in “Jolly Tars” and Bebe Daniels in “The Campus Flirt”. The venue served large roadshow and film presentations until the Chakeres Theaters Inc. chain purchased it in January 1936 and operated it as a movie theatre until the early-1990’s. The Pythians, then Mason’s called it home for their fraternal lodge meetings.
It was renovated in 2003, and in early 2010, it is occupied by two technology driven companies, and is offered ‘For Sale’.
Community leaders have organized the Chakeres Restoration Corporation as a 501 © (3) to participate in the restoration and operation of a community theatre/arts center. Renovations continue in 2023.

Prior to being taken over by Chakeres Theatres in January, 1936, this house was called the Pythian Theatre. From the newspaper ads I’ve seen the company always advertised the house as either the Logan Theatre or Chakeres Logan Theatre, never simply as the Chakeres Theatre.
The building that contains the Logan Theater is undergoing a thorough renovation that appears to be (so far) well-funded and considered. The theater auditorium itself seems, as yet, to be in process, but the intent is to restore and retain its 35mm equipment and to offer the space for a variety of purposes. There are two YouTube videos, the most recent from 2021, documenting the project and a website at Logantheater.com.
