This theatre opened on December 21, 1977 as the Gateway Cinema 1 & 2. It was Statesville’s first ever indoor twin theatre with a seating capacity of 600. Owned and operated under Charlotte based Stewart and Everett Theatres. On June 10, 1983 it had expanded from two to four screens when the two original auditoriums were split into two sections, and the total seating capacity remained at 600. There were 150 seats in each auditorium, and it was renamed Gateway 4 until it closed on September 6, 2007 under Carmike. When it closed the last occupants turned it into a church. It has since been demolished.

From the looks of Google Earth, this cinema has now been completely demolished.

The grand opening of the GATEWAY CINEMA 1 & 2 was on December 21,1977 as Statesville’s second twin indoor theatre with both auditoriums having a seating capacity of 300 seats each. Owned and operated under Statesville Theatre Corporation under the subsidiary of Charlotte-based Stewart and Everett. This theatre offers expanded snack bar and parking facilities as well as restroom facilities designed for people in wheelchairs.

When this theatre expanded from two to four screens under its new name THE GATEWAY CINEMA 4 during the early-1980’s when it was still under Stewart and Everett.
Carmike took over the operations of this theatre until its closing in 2007.
Reason? A ten-screen multiplex muscled in the competition.
Blockbuster movies got first-run billing at this theatre ranging from “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”,to “The Empire Strikes Back”,“Return of the Jedi”,“Indiana Jones”,“E.T.” to “Beverly Hills Cop”.
