Built on an enlarged site of the former Tivoli Picture House (1913-1937), the New Tivoli Picture House opened on 1st January 1938 with Buster Crabbe in "King of the Jungle" It presented pictures and variety.
The entrance was to the right of the building and has Art Deco style features. Inside the auditorium, the seating was provided on stalls and circle levels. It was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. The proscenium is 38 feet wide and the stage 25 feet deep. There were six dressing rooms.
The New Tivoli Picture House was independently operated until it was taken over by the J.B. Milne Theatres circuit by 1963. It was closed on 28th July 1973. It was converted into an All Square Bingo Club, operated by Kingsway Entertainments, which was taken over by Mecca and then became the Carlton Bingo Club. In 2008 it became a church.
On 9th February 1993, Historic Scotland designated the New Tivoli Picture House a Grade B Listed building.
