The Ashley was built during the summer and fall of 1909. Architect David McCarraher designed the one story brick building with a brick and galvanized iron front. It cost $2800 to construct. The theater had between 217 and 225 seats. A permit was issued in September 1909 to erect a sign naming the theater Arcadian, but it appears uncertain the name was actually used in ads.
The theater was called the Victoria until Ashley Abendschein purchased it from Sadie Cohen in November 1935 and changed the name to Ashley. At the time of purchase, Abendschein also operated the Frederick Theatre in Frederick, MD. The Ashley closed in 1950.

The huge Department of Housing and Urban Development building has taken over the entire block where the theater used to stand.
Status should be closed/demolished.
