I have the film display case from this Cinema. Very nostalgic as I used to go to the Saturday matinee shows.
Hello, I grew up in Beverley and used to go to the Saturday morning Matinees, Zorro (B?W) and others 3d downstairs 6dnor 9d upstairs (I think, end of 1975 I worked there as a trainee manager for EMI social serveices (Leeds)and did everything (literally) from changing lamps to calling tele bingo (in the breaks) to serving behind the bar (1st floor) later on I was also part of running the kids disco (in the old ballroom) for kids on Saturday afternoons, what a brilliant time I had, fond memories, ps got some piccies too Steve
I have a picture of the Beverley Regal exterior if you are interested. Dave Park.
Hi Mike_Blakemore I am an Interior Designer and we are currently designing a new restaurant which is situated in this building. We are looking to source images of both the interior and exterior of the Regal Cinema as we would like to bring the history into the design by using the photographs within the scheme, and therefore I was wondering if it would be at all possible for you to send me the original image of this? My email address is .uk Thank you.
does anyone have a picture of the regal when the sign and stripe around the building was painted blue
I left Beverley in 1962, but have many good memories of attending the ABC Minors on Saturday mornings and later, the dances in the ballroom on Saturday nights.
Very sad to hear of its demise
On a technical point. The map shown is not accurate, the building was actually situated on the corner of the junction with manor road.
This cinema was in my home town and I worked in the building in the 80’s as a DJ. I am now writing a book about the building form construction in 1935 until demolition in 1998. The book covers the brief history of the main building first built in 1761, Construction, Cinema, Ballroom, Bingo, Beverley Hills Discotheque, Snooker Center, Regal Nightclub, Closure & Demolition. If anybody knows anything about this great building & would like to contribute, all memories & photos will be entered in the book. Many Thanks
What an amazing shot, when they were demolishing the building I visited to pay my last respects to a beautiful building, after haggaling with the demolition monkeys, I purchased one of the clocks from the ballroom, as seen on the picture and also the original stools from the cafe. These are both used now and of pride of place in my home. On a later visit I went to buy the foundation stone that had been layed by the Mayor of Beverley, this came with half a crown that had also been set in the cement under the foundation stone, the monkey was wanting £40 for these, a poor student at the time, I left them alone. I often wonder where they ended up and kick myself for leaving these priceless goodies.
Steve. A lot of the photos I have put on here, are from those I collected whilst working with ABC-EMI. My late mother had put my collection in safe places around the home and have been doing Time-team methods to find them. Its nice to get thanks for my efforts. As I am fing pictures I am loading onto my hard drive as some are now decaying with age. and the pencil is fading. :o) Like me… I must also thank Ken for doing infomation on Cinemas that I don’t have details of..
Mike, your photo of the ballroom is brilliant, many thanks for sharing it. I have added 3 of my photos of the Regal, but so far I have not located an interior shot of the auditorium or foyer (been searching for many years). The photo you posted looks professional and suggests that there may be a similar one of the auditorium or other parts of the building – I’d love to see such a view if you or anyone else reading this has anything they are prepared to share.
Had added a picture of the Regal ballroom after its refurb 1959
Thanks Lost Memory. That being the case, the style will be Art Deco.
