The Plez-U Theatre was located in the IOOF Building in 1935 and took the place of the 40-yar old Opera House that served as the local movie house. The IOOF which housed the Plez-U decided to remodel and the theatre was taken out with the playdates moved back to the Opera House. The theatre auditorium was repositioned as the Brown Theatre opening on November 14, 1936. It was a streamline moderne movie house launching with “Sing, Baby, Sing.” Following the showtimes of January 27, 1958, a nitrate film fire destroyed the IOOF building. “Stop Over Tokyo” was the final film for the Brown Theatre.
I also found a reference to a Gem Theatre on South Ninth Street.
