The Carolus, was Nijmegen’s oldest surviving cinema, opened in 1955 as part of the Nederlandsche Bioscoop Trust BV (which translates into Dutch Cinema Trust SA) a company belonging to the Tuschinski distributor group. The cinema was made of modern materials such as concrete, steel, and glass. The design was a copy of the Cinema Palace in Groningen, also operated by the Tuschinski group.
The Carolus' large auditorium was retained in the 1980’s as Auditorium 1 seating 436 and a downstairs Auditorium 2 seating 133 was created by excavating under the main auditorium. In 1999, it was sold to Jochems Theaters, who operated the cinema until Vue took over around 2015. It was closed in 2020 when Vue re-opened the former 3-screen Calypso as an 8-screen cinema.
The Vue Nijmegen was located less than 200 meters southeast of the Grote Markt.

As former projectionist in the Carolus Theatre I let you know that The Carolus is never split up and the main Theatre is still original , the second screen is made under the stalles area (dig out) this was a hell of a job at that time and costed a fortune (great time).
