Designed by architect Manuel Pardo y Perez, the Cinematografo Franco-Espanol was opened on 14th August 1903. In 1934 architect Saturnino Ulargui Moreno remodeled the cinema in an Art Deco style and it re-opened as a newsreel theatre named Cine Actualidades. Seating was provided for 297 in orchestra and balcony levels.
On 21st June 1941 it opened as the Cine Alba screening a feature film from the German film studio Ufa: “Tras las Montanas” (Behind the Mountains) and “Noticiarios” (a newsreel). On 10th March 1986 it became an adult cinema, one of three Cine Sala X that were located in Madrid (there were a chain of eight in the country). I believe that it was video projection in later days and the cinema was popular with straight and to a lesser degree gay men. It was closed in March 2015.
It re-opened as a 64 seat cinema in November 2017, re-named Cine Sala Equis, it plays regular feature films.

Still a conventional cinema inside – stalls and circle both open.
Closed March 2015 – this was the last actual porn cinema in Madrid
Cine Alba opened in 1941 in the building formerly occupied by the “Impartial” newspaper, built in 1913. At the end of the 1970’s was transformed into a porn cinema and in March 10, 1986, changed its name to Sala X. Closed as a cinema in 2015.
The building now houses a creative hub known as Sala Equis, completed in November 2017, and contains a 64-seat cinema. When checked ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ was screening at €6.50 a seat. Telephone +34914296686. More here: https://www.yatzer.com/sala-equis-madrid
