The red church building is not the Howard Theatre. It is a building that is next to the site of the theatre. The Howard was in operation in the 1960s and my neighbor was the manager. The building was demolished in the early 1980s and the police substation constructed. The church building may contain parts of the side wing of the theatre building, perhaps the bowling lanes.

I remember going to The Howard for a great double-bill ( a thing of the past for sure) of King Kong and Might Joe Young.

There’s an old photo of the Howard Theatre at http://www.cinematour.com/tour/us/16489.html and it doesn’t look at all like what is there now. Apparently in the old photo it had been converted into a bowling alley.

Yeah, I know. But they assured me it was a theatre and a supermarket.

This building looks like a former garage or something rather than a theatre. It has a low ceiling, bricked-over windows in the walls, and no pilasters.
