The 300-seat New Theatre was opened on January 18, 1937 wit Bing Crosby in “Pennies from Heaven”. It was operated by I.R. Dean. By 1938 it had been renamed Dean Theatre. It was still open in 1957 with 370-seats. It was later renamed Bone Theatre and was still open in 1969.
When commuting to Americus 25 years ago I noticed this theatre off the square in Butler, Georgia. At the time, it was closed and appeared to be in a serious state of disrepair. It has now been demolished.

I don’t remember this theater looking this good when I used to commute through Butler.
Maybe Sanford and Son managed this theater.Interesting name though.
Sad looking theatre,Thanks for the picture chuck1231.
If memory serves me correctly, Bone was a name of a prominent family in the county. There were other businesses named Bone in Butler, Ga.
32.556978,-84.235911 This theater is likely gone. There is a building at this location with the distinctive red and yellow brick mix. Next to it is an empty lot that looks to be full of junk. Notice how the electrical service on the side of the building match up with the American Classics view from 1986.
Still open in 1969.
Opened on January 18, 1937 with Bing Crosby in “Pennies From Heaven” (unknown if extras added), and was first operated by I.R. Dean.
