Simcoe also has two other movie theaters during its early history, which were the Capitol and the Lyric. Unfortunately I cannot find as much details about both theaters.
Originally managed by William Watt of Kitchener, who left the Strand to manage Toronto’s Hollywood Theatre in October 1948. Jack Silverthorne, the manager of Tillsonburg’s Strand at the time, took Watt’s place at the same time.
That is what the Rivest List indicates.Looking at the Google street view of the area, there does not seem to be any building that really looks like a theatre, except for an Odd Fellows Hall, but that is on Robinson. The Simcoe Little Theater apparently moved out as their website has a different address for their current facility.
Was there a Norfolk Theatre on Norfolk Street? I have a postcard showing Norfolk Street from the corner of Robinson/Argyle Street. The theater may be closed. There are no letters on the marquee, only the name Norfolk. A Woolworth’s store is shown (replaced by Leon’s) on one corner, with the Norfolk beyond that. The other corner shows Budds, but in an older building than in the street view. The same buildings beside Budds still exist in the view, as well. It looks like the theater may have been across from an Eaton’s catalogue store.
So it is. How about this one:
