Address was 10 Kingston St. An auto parts store now stands where the theatre used to be.

Here is a 1982 photo. Good luck finding a style for this place.

I remember seeing this abandoned movie house in the ‘70s and was always intrigued by the spooky and unusual architecture. An old postcard I found from the 1890s revealed the reason: it apparently was originally a church, and then remodeled to be an opera house. I’m surprised it was still going as late as 1970; it looked long abandoned by the late '70s.

In 1970 the theater was part of Smalley Theaters, Inc, H.S. Smalley president. The chain named all of their theaters Smalley’s, and at that time had houses in Cooperstown, Delhi, Dolgeville, Fort Plain, Johnstown, Norwich, St. Johnsville and Stamford.

The Delhi Opera House is listed as operating in the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915 edition. By at least 1941 it had been re-named Smalley’s Theatre and was still in operation in 1950.
