The Century Theatre opened in 1910, the first theatre in the Ascher Brothers chain. It originally had seating for 832 and included a balcony. The Century Theatre stood on W. Madison Street at N. Loomis Street, in the Union Park neighborhood on Chicago’s Near West Side. The theatre was in operation until 1966 and was torn down in 1972.
This theatre is not to be confused with the Century Theatre in Lakeview, which was originally opened as the Diversey Theatre and today houses a shopping center and an art house movie theatre.

The “Building Permits” column of the January 8, 1910, issue of The Economist noted this theater project at 1419-1421 W. Madison Street. The architect was William F. Pagels.
