Previous Names: Clocktower Cinema
Located in Croydon, a district in the south of Greater London. Named after film director David Lean who lived locally, the David Lean Cinema opened on 3rd March 1995 with Peter Jackson’s "Heavenly Creatures". It was a conversion of a former local studies library and formed part of a new local council amenities building named the Clocktower which is located in the former 1895 built; Croydon Town Hall.
Due to Council cut-backs, the Clocktower Cinema was closed on 21st April 2011 with Timothy Bottoms in “The Last Picture Show”. It was re-opened as the David Lean Cinema on 27th March 2014.
