On Broadway Theatre

Until 1944 the town was named Marshfield. This theatre served as a silent movie revival house back in 1979-80 while across the street the Egyptian Theatre was in full thrust. In 1980 it was then decided to turn this theatre into live community theatre in which over the years hosted childrens' theatre, musicals, comedies and dramas.

This building has over three floors in which many interesting stories has cropped up over the years. It was learned that it was built in 1920’s and at one time served as a brothel. It housed the Little Theater on the Bay in the 1930’s and 1940’s, and town meetings were held there.

There are stories of various people who died there and whose spirits supposedly still haunt the building. Many of people have braved the climb to the third floor to experience first hand the supernatural that would encompass the three floors of the theatre. It was closed by 2023.

This theatre has bounced all over Coos Bay thru the years. They are currently a guest of Little Theater On The Bay. The old location across from the Egyptian seems to be vacant, although its nice to see some signage of its former life.
