The Empress Theatre was opened in 1911, located in a former clothing store in the Lathrop Building. In 1919 a Kimball 2 manual organ was installed. The Empress Theatre was destroyed by fire on October 10, 1951. The movie screening that day was “Halls of Montezuma” starring Richard Widmark.
