Originally opened in 1914 at another smaller location in Casey, the Lyric Theatre later reopened in the Meeker Building on Main Street. The theater was enlarged in 1935, to the plans of architectural firm Johnson & Maack of St. Louis. In the early-1950’s it was again remodeled. In the mid-1960’s, a fire gutted the building and it was demolished.

I grew up in Casey & attended this theater. An Elvis Presley movie was showing at this theater on the weekend when this theater caught on fire. Robert & Betty Johnson were the owners of this theater. They put in a Theater ( much smaller) also name Lyric at the orginal Lyric Theater location in Casey, after this theater had the fire. Robert & Betty Johnson also owned the Casey Drive-In Theater ( been closed for several years). The smaller Lyric Theater has been closed for several years & was used for a restaurant, retail & youth center. Presently this building is vacant.
After the fire, the Lyric Theater building was torn down. A parking lot & the Casey City Hall building was built in the location where the theater & a laundy mat building once stood.
The September 4, 1935, issue of The Film Daily said that construction bids had been taken for the new Lyric Theatre to be built in Casey, Illinois. The project had been designed by St. Louis architects Johnson & Maack.
