Does anyone have current interior photos of this theater? Their website is quite sparse!
Will be coming to Owego to see friends and see the Tioga Theatre.
Although I’m not a resident of Owego, NY, I wish the community all the best of luck in raising the funding for the necessary conversion to digital projection. Both of the independent, non-profit theatres in my area had to do it, and I’m glad to see that they’re both still operating as a result. It’s hard when a cherished movie theatre bites the dust.
Again, all the best of luck to the Owego community.

As I was driving through Owego on my way to Ithaca, i glimpsed this old theater and did a u turn to take a closer look. Sure enough, it is OPEN though I didn’t have a chance to look inside. Still happy to see that it is still there especially considering the flood damage earlier in the year.
One more note on the Tioga: it’s in a small town, and with only the larger (original) auditorium equipped with surround sound and a huge wide screen, the owner/manager opens that venue to the film that sells the largest number of tickets. The smaller add-on screening rooms play to the smaller number of tickets. If you want to see the blockbuster in stereo, you’d better hope that film sold the most tix!
The Tioga Theater suffered flood damage as the Susquehanna overflowed its banks and ravaged the village of Owego in Sept. 2011. The Theater was closed for several weeks, with the marquee holding only this message: “Coming Soon: The Help.” Help came, and the theater is open again, still under renovation. The owner is committed, courageous, and is to be commended.

The Tioga Theatre is still going as a First Run house with 3 screens. The owners didn’t hack up the original auditorium but instead turned the stage area into a 90 seat house (in the mid ‘80s) and also built a 45 seat stadium theatre (early 2000’s)in the building next door. The Tioga is supposedly one of the oldest operating theatres in New York State. It also was (again supposedly) one of the first theatres built with the cantilever balcony system; therefore having no support poles. The balcony remains closed ; extensive renovations are needed and are planned. The main floor (original auditorium) seating was spaced to allow more comfort and still seats a little over 300. This theatre is still in good shape for being nearly 100 years old with lots of plaster mouldings, old light fixtures,& organ lofts (I’m not sure what type of organ was there)The Tioga is also the last “Old Time” theatres in the Binghamton area that is still open.
